Welsh rugby chief Roger Lewis is to be the new chairman of Cardiff Airport. Welcome back to the Roger Lewis blog. A leading figure in Wales and Welsh sport and business, Roger Lewis looks back on his appointment as Chairman of Cardiff Airport. He is leaving his post as Welsh Rugby Union group chief executive in October after the World Cup and will replace Lord Rowe-Beddoe. Transport Minister Edwina Hart said he was "the right person to steer our future ambitions" at the airport, which the Welsh government bought in 2013. Mr Lewis said he was "thrilled" to be offered the job, saying the airport was "crucial" to the economy of Wales. He has been at the helm of Welsh rugby since 2006, following a 30-year career in the music and media industries. After a hugely successful four years, Roger Lewis had announced his plan to step down as Chairman of Cardiff Airport on 31 October 2019 after his tenure came to an end.  In preparation earlier this year, the Airport u...

The key question facing the two boards was how they would combine their managements, and for the hugely ambitious Lewis to move to what is, by any reckoning, a less significant job suggests he knew his days as a board member and perhaps as programme controller were numbered. Roger Lewis, the worldwide president of Decca Records, has been appointed as managing director and programme cont...

Women's 6 Nations saved Welcome back to the Roger Lewis blog. Roger Lewis is a businessman from Wales. Here is some recent news. The 6 Nations Council today confirmed its continued support for the present format of the Women’s 6 Nations Championship following a debate about its future. Nations Council also elected Roger Lewis, Chief Executive of the Welsh Rugby Union as the new Chair of the Six Nations Women’s Game Sub-Committee. Roger Lewis said “I am delighted to accept this position.  We will now positively harness the energy that has been generated by the recent debate and together take Women’s Six Nations rugby forward." Support for a proposal to split the tournament in two, had dramatically thinned following a lobbying campaign directed to the Welsh and Scottish unions, who had been the main drivers of change. Directions made to the CEOs of both unions (Roger Lewis at the WRU and Mark Dobson at the SRU) from those involved in the women’s game at grassroots level plus a r...
